5. In Pictures

Can a picture capture your entirety?
Or just give us something to hold onto?
Can we ever look back on life in entirety,
or just its threads? Curiously we pull to see

exactly who and what we have grown to be.
Exactly who and what have we grown to be?

In the past we were unbreakable,
revolving hands had no hold on us,
but onus, inescapable,
and mortal eyes close to a narrow view of the world.

We squint to see through slits in the shades,
waiting for a reflection of light to sneak through.

We open our eyes...
Those eyes, that smile, but is it a lie?
Is that child alive today?

Pictures grant immortality.
We will live forever in them,
but will familiar faces
frame any answers when looking back?

Can a picture capture your entirety?
Or just give us something to hold onto?
Do pictures carry us on in entirety?
Or just remind us of whom we once were?

There are just these threads curiously pulled to see

exactly who and what we've become today,
exactly how and when we became this way,
exactly who and what we are.
Exactly who and what are we?

Pictures grant immortality.
We will live forever in them,
but can we reconcile
how to crack a smile when looking back?
